A little help with your boops.
Answers to the usual questions are below. For anything else, send a note anytime.
Include your app version, iOS version, and a short description of what happened. If you send a screenshot, cover any names, phone numbers, or other information you’d rather keep private.
Birthdays
- Can I add a birthday myself?
- Yes. Tap + on Upcoming, then Add a birthday. A name and a birthday is all Boop needs, and Contacts and calendar access are optional.
- How do I paste a list of birthdays?
- Copy your list from Notes or a message, one birthday a line, like “Maya Oct 15” or “Sam 3/21”. During setup, tap Paste on the Got a list somewhere? screen. Later, tap + on Upcoming, then Add birthdays, More ways to add and Paste a list. Boop reads only the text you paste, right on your iPhone or iPad, and you review every birthday before it’s saved.
- Which calendars does Boop look in?
- Just the ones you pick. The Calendars step in setup lists your calendars by account, Google, Outlook and iCloud included, all picked to start for the most birthdays. Tap any calendar to leave it out. Boop finds birthdays in the calendars you keep picked and leaves them exactly as they are.
- What is Waiting on a birthday?
- A home for people still waiting for a date. During setup, contacts that still need a birthday join it only if you pick them. Tap Ask to send a friendly message asking for their birthday, or Add date when you know it, and their reminders start right then. Find it in the + menu on Upcoming or at the top of Your people.
- What do “Same person?” and “Is this you?” mean?
- When two entries share a birthday and look like one person, a small card in Upcoming asks “Same person?”. Tap Combine to merge them, with Undo right there, Keep both to keep them apart, or Later for a reminder next week. When an entry looks like your own birthday, Boop asks “Is this you?” first.
- How do I change a photo or birthday emoji?
- Open the person you want to update and use their photo or appearance controls.
- How do I move my birthdays to a new phone?
- They come back on their own. Keep in iCloud starts on, so a new iPhone or iPad on the same Apple Account (with Passwords turned on in iCloud settings) greets you with Welcome back during setup. Photos stay on each device, and restoring from an iCloud Backup brings those along too. You can also save a backup copy in Settings in the app and restore it on the new phone.
- How do I delete my data?
- Delete a person in the app to remove them, and with Keep in iCloud on they leave your iCloud copy too. To remove everything, open Settings in the app, tap Privacy & backups, turn off Keep in iCloud and tap Clear the iCloud copy, then delete the app. If another iPhone or iPad keeps a copy too, turn off Keep in iCloud there first. To remove your Boop Plus purchase record from RevenueCat, or anything you’ve emailed us, write to hello@birthdayboop.com.
Reminders and widgets
- What does the badge on the Settings gear mean?
- Something is ready for a look. Open Settings and tap Needs your attention, right at the top. It gathers a gift you’ve earned, new dates in Contacts or Calendar, a saved birthday match, a date to check, a contact photo to add, reminders waiting on notifications, or a paused iCloud copy. Tap × to tuck a row away until something new joins it.
- How do I make sure reminders show up?
- Turn on notifications for Birthday Boop in the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, then pick your reminder times in the app. Focus modes can change when an alert appears.
- How do I add a widget?
- Touch and hold an empty part of your Home Screen to enter edit mode, open the widget gallery, and search for Birthday Boop. Choose a widget and add it to your Home Screen. The widget guide has the steps in order.
- How do I keep names off my widgets?
- Turn on Discreet mode in Settings, under Privacy & backups. It has three switches, each on its own: Hide names in Upcoming, Hide names and photos on widgets, and Hide names in notifications. Notes stay off widgets and alerts either way.
- How do I change the app icon?
- Open Settings, then App icon, under Make it yours. It changes Boop’s icon on your Home Screen. Butter is free, and Boop Plus adds 7 more colors of the same disco ball: Rainbow, Midnight, Tuxedo, Pink, Lilac, Mint and Pool. A look is different: it dresses your countdown, widgets and cards, and you pick it in Your look.
Boop Plus
- What’s free?
- Every birthday, every reminder, every import, groups, the calendar, iCloud, backups, the Live countdown on iPhone, the Next birthday widget in small and medium, every Lock Screen widget, the Simple card, Discreet mode and the Messages stickers. You also get the Disco night and After hours looks, the Soft font and the Butter app icon, with four more looks and two more fonts to earn in birthday quests.
- What does Boop Plus add?
- Five more Home Screen widgets (Your people, Countdown clock, Photo shuffle, This month and My birthday), pinning one person to a Next birthday widget, 13 looks including the pastel Rainbow, 3 more fonts (Comic, Typewriter and Poster), 8 more app icons and cards in any look. Anything with a Plus label in the app comes with it. Open Settings, then Boop Plus, to try looks, fonts and icons on your own countdown first.
- How does the free week work?
- New subscribers get the first week of the yearly plan free. The app shows the date your plan begins. Cancel at least 24 hours before then in your Apple Account and the week stays free. Monthly starts right away.
- What are birthday quests?
- Little goals in the app, each with its gift named up front. To get set up: add 5 birthdays to earn the My birthday widget, add a Boop widget to earn a font, make your first card to earn a card design, and add 10 birthdays to earn a look, your pick each time. Badges for the long run bring bigger picks, like Full calendar, a birthday in every month, for a look, your pick of 3. Celebrating birthdays in six different months earns a Plus gift: a month of every Plus item, on us, starting when you tap Start my month. Gifts you earn stay yours. Find them in Settings, under Make it yours, then Birthday quests.
- What is the Rainbow Week badge?
- A limited badge for Rainbow Week. From November 3 to 17, try on the pastel Rainbow look on your countdown, with Boop Plus or without, and the Rainbow Week badge is yours. Open Settings, then Birthday quests, and tap Try it on.
- Why does a widget say “Part of Boop Plus”?
- Every Birthday Boop widget appears in the widget gallery, Plus ones included. Before you have Plus, those show a soft preview of your birthdays. Tap one to see Boop Plus, or swap it for Next birthday, which is free.
- How do I restore Boop Plus?
- In the app, open Settings, tap Boop Plus, then Restore purchases, using the Apple Account that bought it. Quest rewards come along with an iCloud Backup of your device.
- How do I cancel Boop Plus?
- Open Settings on your device, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Boop Plus. Cancel at least 24 hours before your plan renews, or before your free week ends, to stop the next charge. You keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for, and quest rewards stay yours.
