Birthday Boop Privacy Policy

This covers the Birthday Boop app for iPhone and iPad, and this website. They work differently, so each has its own section.

Effective October 15, 2026.

Who we are

Birthday Boop is made by OctoView LLC, PO Box 499, Chardon, OH 44024, USA. Our privacy contact handles questions, requests and complaints about this policy at hello@birthdayboop.com.

The app

Birthday Boop works on your iPhone or iPad without an account or a Birthday Boop server, and it has no ads or tracking. The birthdays, photos and notes you add are saved on your device, and your birthday list, notes included, keeps a private copy in your own iCloud (see Where it’s kept). Photos stay on your device. Besides Apple, the one service the app talks to is RevenueCat, for Boop Plus purchase records, and only after you buy or restore Boop Plus. It’s described under Purchases below.

Birthdays you add

You can enter names, birthdays, an optional birth year, an optional display name, notes, phone numbers, relationship labels and groups such as Friends, Family or Faves. The app uses this to show who is coming up, schedule reminders, fill widgets and make birthday cards. New setup asks for your name, in one field, and your birthday’s month and day; your birth year is optional. Your full name helps Boop recognize your own card in Contacts.

For anyone you add, you can choose a birthday time zone, and for people in Faves a birthday hour, so their birthday reminder arrives on their birthday, in their time. You pick the time zone from a list, so Boop leaves your location alone. The time zone and hour are saved with that person, on your device and in your iCloud copy.

Contacts and calendars

Contacts and calendar access are optional. If you allow Contacts, the app reads names and birthday fields (including a birth year, if one is saved) from the contacts you allow, and a contact’s photo if you choose to use it. When you open someone’s message or call options, it reads their phone numbers so you can pick one; a number you choose is saved with that person. Choose from Contacts works even with Contacts access off: it opens Apple’s contact picker, Boop receives only the contact you pick, saves the number you choose and remembers which contact it came from. It doesn’t read contact notes or addresses, and it never changes your contacts. If you allow Calendars, the app looks at event titles and dates only in the calendars you choose, to suggest birthdays. You review everything before it’s saved.

Waiting on a birthday is a list of people still waiting for a date, and it’s up to you: contacts missing a birthday join it only if you pick them, and names from a pasted list only if you keep them in the review. For each one, the app keeps the name and a link back to the contact until you add a date or remove them, and the name is part of your iCloud copy. Ask opens a Messages draft to that person; you review it and send it yourself.

Lists you paste

Paste a list uses Apple’s own Paste button, so the app reads what you’ve copied only when you tap Paste, and only that text. You can also type a list yourself. The text is read on your iPhone or iPad to find names and dates, you review every birthday before it’s saved, and the app lets the pasted text go once you’re done.

Photos and camera

You can give a person up to 8 photos or a birthday emoji, choose their main photo, and pick one of their saved photos for a card. Photos come in through Apple’s photo picker, which hands Boop only the photos you pick, so Boop skips asking for access to your photo library, and Limited or Full library access works the same. The camera opens only when you choose to take a photo.

Boop saves its own copy of each photo you add: a bounded original for re-editing, plus smaller copies for the app, widgets and cards. These photos and saved memories stay on your iPhone or iPad. They stay out of your iCloud copy and out of the backup files you save from Boop, and Photo shuffle and other widgets read them from your device. When you scan a birthday list from a photo, the text is read on your iPhone or iPad and the image is let go once you’re done.

Notifications and widgets

Reminders use notifications, which you control in the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. An optional monthly overview, off until you turn it on, sends one quiet notification with a count of the month’s birthdays. Widgets show upcoming birthdays on your Home Screen and Lock Screen, and Photo shuffle takes turns with your people’s saved photos. Discreet mode can hide names and photos on every widget, and names in your Upcoming list and in notifications, each with its own switch.

Sharing and feedback

Birthday cards, messages and backups leave the app only when you share them, through Apple Messages, Mail or the share sheet, to the people you choose. The text that goes with a card, an ask for birthdays, your own countdown or Share Boop ends with a link to this website carrying one fixed word, like birthdayboop.com/?ct=card. The word (card, ask, story or invite) says which kind of share the link came from, and that’s all: it leaves out who sent it, who it went to and anything about your device, and you can delete it from the message before you send. Send feedback opens a Mail draft to us with your message, one screenshot you choose, and the app and iOS version; you review it and send it yourself.

Purchases

Boop Plus is an optional monthly or yearly subscription bought through Apple. Apple handles payment, so your card details and Apple Account information stay with Apple.

To keep track of subscriptions, the app shares a record with RevenueCat, the subscription service we use: the plan, price, purchase dates and Apple’s transaction IDs, along with a random app ID, a device ID from Apple and basic device details such as the model, iOS version, language and App Store country. The app shares this only once you buy or restore Boop Plus; until then, nothing goes to RevenueCat. Your name, birthdays, contacts and photos stay out of these records. Apple also tells RevenueCat about renewals, refunds and cancellations. We use these records to confirm Boop Plus and to see how it’s doing.

Where it’s kept

Your birthday list, photos and settings are stored on your iPhone or iPad, shared only with Birthday Boop’s own widgets. We can’t see them. Your device’s backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) may include them, under Apple’s terms. A backup file you export from the app is yours to keep wherever you choose.

Your iCloud copy

If you’re signed in to iCloud, Birthday Boop keeps a copy of your birthday list in your own iCloud account, so it comes back when you reinstall the app or set up a new iPhone or iPad. The copy holds the details you’ve saved in Boop (names, dates and years, groups, relationship labels, notes, checklists, phone numbers you chose, birthday emoji, birthday time zones and hours, names waiting on a birthday, your own name and birthday, and your settings). Every photo, saved memories included, and your purchases stay on your device. The copy is encrypted with a key stored in your iCloud Keychain and is stored by Apple under your Apple Account, where only your devices can open it. You can turn this off, or clear the copy, any time in Birthday Boop under Settings → Privacy & backups. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.

This website

This website has no accounts or advertising. Like most websites, it’s delivered by a hosting provider (Lovable) whose servers process standard request information, such as IP address and browser type, to deliver and protect the site and to count visits. It uses these small cookies:

  • __cf_bm

    Cloudflare · 30 minutes

Screens out bots and keeps the site secure.

  • __dpl

    Lovable · 1 day

Keeps you on one version of the site while it updates.

  • session-id

    Lovable · 30 minutes

Counts a visit, for our own visitor numbers.

Once Birthday Boop is on the App Store, a link to this site with a campaign word (like the ?ct=card on a card from the app, or ?ct=press in an article) keeps that word in your browser’s session storage for the visit, and the site adds it to its App Store links. Apple then counts App Store visits and downloads by campaign in App Analytics, which shows us totals only. Session storage clears when you close the tab, and the word is the same for everyone who follows that kind of link.

This site and the app leave cross-site tracking out entirely, so every visit gets the same treatment, with or without a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.

Launch email

If you ask to be notified, we store the email address you enter on the website, with the time you signed up and the wording you agreed to, so we can send you one email from OctoView LLC when Birthday Boop goes live. Our email provider sends it for us, and every copy tells you how to unsubscribe. We use your address for that one email only, and we delete the list within 30 days of sending it. If Birthday Boop doesn’t launch, we delete the list by December 31, 2026. This is separate from the birthdays you save in the app. To be removed sooner, reply to that email with “unsubscribe” or email hello@birthdayboop.com.

Support email

If you email hello@birthdayboop.com, we receive your address, your message and any attachments, and use them only to help you and improve the app. Please cover other people’s names and phone numbers in screenshots.

Who else is involved

  • Apple delivers the app, handles purchases and notifications, and runs iCloud, which holds your iCloud copy and iCloud Backup.
  • RevenueCat keeps the Boop Plus purchase records described above.
  • Lovable hosts this website, and Supabase stores the launch list for it.
  • Cloudflare runs our domain and forwards support email to our inbox.
  • Our email provider holds support email and sends the one launch email.

Each handles information under its own privacy terms, and we give them only what this policy describes. Your information stays out of any sale and out of ad targeting, and we share it with no one else, except where the law requires it. Nevada residents can send sale opt-out requests to hello@birthdayboop.com.

Keeping and deleting

  • Delete a person in the app to remove them, their photos and their reminders. To remove one photo, tap it in that person’s Photos row.
  • Delete the app to remove the birthdays, photos and settings it stored on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Your iCloud copy stays in your iCloud after you delete the app, so your birthdays can come back. To remove it, turn off Keep in iCloud and tap Clear the iCloud copy in Settings → Privacy & backups, on each iPhone or iPad that keeps a copy.
  • Launch list emails are deleted within 30 days of the launch email.
  • Boop Plus purchase records stay with Apple and RevenueCat for as long as we need them to manage subscriptions and keep financial records. To have your RevenueCat record deleted sooner, email hello@birthdayboop.com.
  • Support emails are kept while we’re helping you and for up to a year after. Ask us to delete yours sooner at hello@birthdayboop.com.

Your choices

  • Turn Contacts, Calendars, Photos, Camera or notification access on or off in the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Turning access off stops future reads; birthdays you already saved stay until you delete them.
  • Edit, hide or remove people in the app, and turn on Discreet mode for your widgets, list and notifications.
  • Turn Keep in iCloud on or off in Settings → Privacy & backups.
  • Export a backup of your birthdays from Settings in the app.
  • Ask us about information we hold from support emails at hello@birthdayboop.com.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you and have it corrected or deleted at hello@birthdayboop.com. If you’re in the EU, the UK or a place with similar laws, you can also ask us to restrict or move your information, or object to how we use it, and you can complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).

Our reasons for using information: your consent for the launch email, which you can withdraw anytime by unsubscribing; our agreement with you to provide Boop Plus; and our legitimate interest in running, securing and improving the site and the app, such as bot protection and subscription numbers.

OctoView LLC is based in the United States, and our providers process information in the US and other countries. Where they offer them, we rely on their data protection terms, such as standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Children

Birthday Boop is made for a general audience. Everything you add stays on your device and in your own iCloud, and the app works without an account. If you think a child under 13 (or under 16 where that’s the rule) has sent us personal information, write to hello@birthdayboop.com and we’ll delete it.

Age checks

In places where the law asks apps to check age, like Texas, Birthday Boop asks Apple for your age range through Apple’s Declared Age Range feature. Apple shares a range, like 13 to 15 or 18 and up, rather than your birthday. Your age range stays on your device, only while Boop is open, and Boop uses it for one thing: deciding whether purchase records go to RevenueCat. If you’re under 18 or keep your range private, or the birth year you add in Boop shows you’re under 13, Boop keeps RevenueCat switched off on your device. Purchases still go through Apple, with a parent’s approval wherever Apple asks for one, and all of Boop works the same at every age.

Changes

When this policy changes, the new version goes here with a new effective date. For a big change, we’ll also post a note on this site and in the app’s next update.
